COMMUNITY SCHOOL SATURDAY RETURNS WINTER SOCCER AT LAFAYETTE CAMPUS

WSIS has enthusiastically returned to the Lafayette campus to provide winter soccer programming in partnership with Lafayette High School, Lafayette International High School, Newcomer Academy, Northwest Buffalo Community Center, and Say Yes Buffalo for the second consecutive year.
The program is part of the Strong Community Schools Initiative at that location.  The Initiative seeks to build bridges, improve learning, connect individuals and families to beneficial resources, and strengthen engagement between schools, students, parents and community members.

New to this year’s program is an exciting academic curriculum for students who arrive early or wish to stay after their designated time to play.  Each week, a short lesson is taught on a soccer topic of interest to players using short video clips, articles and other materials. Participants are then invited to engage in group discussion with an opportunity for everyone to make a contribution or ask questions.  A variety of topics are covered from game play and tactics, soccer history, women and girls in soccer, effective teamwork strategies, and more.

The Lafayette Campus Community School is open Saturdays from 9:00 AM to Noon on the following dates in 2018:

January 6, 13, 20, and 27
February 3 and 10
March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31
April 14 and 20
May 12 and 19

WSIS schedule is as follows:

9:00 AM – 9:50 AM            Ages 12-15 Boys
10:00 AM – 10:50 AM        Ages 12-19 Girls
11:00 AM – 11:50 AM        Ages 16-10 Boys

Free breakfast and lunch is also provided by the Lafayette Campus and is served in the cafeteria to participants of all on-site programs.

Soccer is just one of many programs provided to the community during that time.  Other offerings include music, dance, art, cooking, technology, ESL, health and wellness, yoga and much more for people of all ages!

UPDATE: REGISTRATION FOR WSIS SATURDAY SOCCER AT LAFAYETTE IS NOW CLOSED.*

*Please note, other on-site programs are still accepting new participants and all classes are open to the community. We would encourage anyone looking for a fun way to fill their Saturday morning to visit, eat, and enjoy time with our community friends at any of the open programs available.  For more information visit: BPS Strong Community Schools.
